Battling Sensitive Skin
STRUGGLE WITH SENSITIVE SKIN?
Sensitive skin means your skin is more reactive than average skin. Melissa Piliang, M.D. who specialises in dermatopathology at Cleveland Clinic states "Skin that is easily irritated , either by environmental factors like sun, wind, cold or topical products, like lotion or fragrances".
We'll help you battle your sensitive skin using these easy tips.
Things to Avoid
1.Alcohol is present in many products such as toner, however there are many alcohol free alternatives. Alcohol can take away the skin's moisture, causing irritated and itchy skin.
2.Another thing to avoid is synthetic fragrances, these can weaken the skin's inner layers making it vulnerable to sun and turn skin inflamed.
3.Sleeping on a dirty pillowcase can cause the build up of bacteria and excess sebum, leading to acne. Regularly washing them prevents this from happening.
How to combat sensitive skin
1.Be gentle with your skin! Instead of using a scrub on your face daily, use a chemical exfoliant 1-2 times a week just to remove dry, dead skin. After washing your face blot, don't rub your face with a towel to dry it.
2.Using products with Green tea extracts soothes skin as it contains natural antioxidants with anti-inflammatory benefits
3.Another key ingredient which proves to be great for sensitive skin is Bisabolol; a plant extract that also has soothing and anti-inflammatory ingredients once applied to skin. Bisabolol is often found in serums and moisturisers, as well as Chamomile extracts to reduce the signs of aging, giving skin a youthful glow.
4.Keeping your skin moisturised is a must! Moisturised skin keeps the skin from being venerable, to sun damage, irritation from dehydrated skin. Sun cream added to moisturisers is a bonus.
