Korean Makeup Hacks

Korean skincare is well known and much discussed globally, but their approach to makeup is worth bringing to focus as well. A dewy complexion that makes skin appear lit from within is favoured, as it creates a youthful and healthy appearance.

Prepare Skin First 

Kim Myung Jun, head makeup artist for Etude house, says that exfoliation is key before applying makeup "Use a scrub that suits your skin type", then prepare your skin with serums, toners and moisturisers for supple skin.

Look For A Cushion Formula

Cushion formulas provide a luminous base as they're light, mousse-y and silky smooth. Dabbing the cushion foundation or BB Creams and pressing in a sweeping motion dispearses the formula well, creating an even skin tone.

Lean Into Fruit Juice Makeup

Applying watery tints on lips and cheeks, creates a fresh and natural looking flush to your skin. "Then tap on a cream blush with a sponge or your fingers and blend upwards and outwards" Jun states. To apply a lip stain it's best to wipe the lips clean with a cleansing tissue, then apply a concealer or cushion compact to make the lip tone even, and then apply the stain on top.

Follow A Straight Brow Look

A straight eyebrow shape that's full and thick should be drawn in a slightly lighter colour shade than the rest of your hair, to create an illusion of a smaller face that makes you appear soft and youthful. "Draw a straight line from one start point under the front of the eyebrow to the end of the eyebrows, and then arrange the line clearly accordingly. Then arrange and draw the eyebrows above so that they have a straight line following the guidelines" says Jun.
